I have been helping horses and humans for many years. Originally from Ireland, where I trained as a counsellor, I made the move to Australia in 2009 to investigate opportunities in the horse racing industry. Since then, I have been called upon by many educational and government representatives to advise on education in equestrian and racing industries and horse welfare.
My passion for helping humans and horses guided me to the Equine Psychotherapy Institute where I gained certification in 2018. This gave me the opportunity to combine my passion for counselling and retraining/rehoming retired racehorses and from this my business Racing Hearts Equine Assisted Therapy became a reality. I have also completed the Freedom from the Inner Critic and Trauma intensives with the EPI which really enhanced my understanding of the life changing power of this model of EAP and added significantly to my practice.
Based on the Mornington Peninsula, Racing Hearts offers EAP to clients of all ages with a broad spectrum of challenges. I work with a team of fabulous retired racehorses, a sassy Shetland named Frankie, 2 cats and 2 chickens. I also run a busy equine veterinary surgery and hospital at our farm with my husband Glenn.
Since being in Australia, I have completed a Certificate in Adolescent Counselling, Graduate Diploma in Psychology and I am currently completing my pathway to a Master of Psychology with Monash University. I am hoping to expand on current research on animal and equine assisted psychotherapy from a neurobiological aspect.
