New Zealand – EAL Practitioners

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) Practitioners

Our Certified EAL Practitioners are teachers, disability support workers, youth workers, horse riding instructors, coaches, organisational consultants, and, people interested in helping people learn new skills, with the horses as engaging partners in the process.

EAL practitioners have also successfully completed over 120 hours training, supervision and assessment in EAL, and now offer it as specialist modality to support social-emotional learning, personal development and professional development such as leadership and team effectiveness skills.

EAL is not therapy. EAL is an innovative form of experiential learning – where clients develop new insight and learn new skills via relational experiences with horses.

Jeannie Young

EPI Model EAL Practitioner
BTchLn; MEd

I am a qualified teacher with a Master in Education and over a decade’s teaching experience across all levels. I have experience with a variety of Specific Learning Difficulties (SLDs) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

I offer individual and group sessions and tailor made programmes for children, adolescents and adults/corporate groups.

Equine Connections operates from a beautiful property on the outskirts of Taupo, owned by my husband Tony and I, and shared by our two children, two dogs and of course, our horses. I invite you to come and see what I, with my small herd of horses can do for you.

Wendy Sporle

EPI Model EAP and EAL Practitioner (Equine therapy & Learning)

I am proud to have added the EPI certification to my mental health nurse, recreation and sport, and counselling qualifications. My life has been blessed with the support of horses for more than 50 years and now a herd of seven is willing to support other people to achieve their personal and therapeutic goals through a trust “Āwhina hōiho”, based in the Far North.

We, as a team, can offer individual and group sessions and also retreats in self contained farm accommodation. My approach of healing and growing with the help of the horses and within the natural environment, while considering tikanga, is important to me.
